November 19, 2009. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Latin American Championships

Positive results are reported from these exciting Latin American Table Tennis Championships IV games which saw
participants from all over Latin America, such as Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Chile, Venezuela, and Brazil.  The participants included Jorge Herrera from Guatemala, who won the O40 event over Carlos Sosa, also a member of our club, and Dennis Gaitan from Nicaragua who came in third in the over 50 event. These participants not only represented their respective countries, but also our club. Congratulations to all participants and placements.

Standing in the entryway to the playing area, the first thing I saw, was Marty Prager, wearing his Newgy Warmup and grinning from ear to ear.  How are you doing? I greeted him extending my hands for a warm handshake. He did not reply, but what he did say answered my question. "Did you ever see anything like this?", he said to me. "Come, let me give you a tour", he added. "This South Florida club, it's the best club in the country, I am not BS 'ing!", he melodically cadenced.

Vladimir Samsonov had never been to Malaysia to play in a table tennis tournament before February, 2000 -- and he's never been back there to play ping-pong since.

And by all accounts, before February 19 of that year, Belarus' Samsonov had never heard of Muhammad Shameruddin Khiruddin and his father Khiruddin Baharuddin, a fruit seller, and his mother Rodziah Idris, a housewife watching over two other children.
